So here I am sitting on my lazy boy recliner watching TV when a light bulb appears above my head. "I should totally make a sports blog from a real fan's view point!" So here I am after 30 hard seconds of thinking up of a name for this blog and I come up with "The Real Sports Guru". "Sports Guru" to indicate that I am Indian and a sports genius and "The Real" to mock the imposters who have already taken the url for sportsguru.blogspot.com. Which by the way I am not linking so please do not visit their website as there is no such thing as free advertising.
First order of business:
Watching the premier Christmas day basketball game I was extremely entertained yet frustrated at the same time. I am of course talking about the Suns-Spurs rematch from the playoffs of like what the past seven years? Those of you who thought I was referring to the Celtics and Lakers you will soon learn that I am not big on Boston sports and am lukewarm for the Lakers. The Spurs trailed pretty much the entire game and pulled of an amazing win at the buzzer to bust the Suns bubble once again. The Spurs struggled incredibly shooting the ball, hovering constantly below 40% for the game before just finishing above. Tim Duncan was shown up multiple times by "The Diesel" with some "flashy" crossovers and easy layups. Manu shot the rock as if it weighed a ton and the Suns tandem of Stoudemire and O'neal were causing havoc in the paint for the spurs. So here we are again, Phoenix ahead for most of the game in their own building but no one seems to count out the spurs in any playoff atmosphere contest. They fought back after being being down 11 points to take the lead in the final minutes of the game before grant hill gave the home team the lead after recieving the ball back after inbounding to lay it in from a ball screen from steve nash. With 4.3 seconds left on the clock the building was on fire and the suns looked like they might have this one. But nothing but ice cold water seemed to run through the veins of the experienced spurs. Parker recieved the in bounds and drew the defense to him before passing it out to the perimeter to new spur this year, Roger Mason and BANG!! The shot is good as the clock expires and silence consumes the building while the spurs bench rush on to the court to maul mason. Once again the spurs proved their worth and stunned the suns when it counted the most.
Say what you will about the "boring" spurs but they always seem to show up come playoff time as can be seen by their 4 championships in the past decade.
On a side note I did not watch most of the Lakers game but am glad that the Celtics winning streak came to an end. I could not handle the ESPN analysts just hand the trophy over to the celtics already.
Second order of business:
Mark Texiera as a proud member of the yankee empire I would like to welcome you to the winning column. Say what you will about the yankees exorbant amount of funds and the crazy free agent contracts they hand out, but they are dedicated to their fans and the yankee brand and will take whatever it takes to put the best team on the field.
Now here is my first post for this blog, hopefully it comes to something and I gather a few readers who enjoy my views of the sporting world.
With that Happy Holidays and Boo yah!!
